🛠️ Setting Up Betsy
A first-time guide for getting Betsy configured in your own server — from inviting her through to everything she can do.
1. Inviting Betsy
Head to the Betsy page and use the Add Betsy to Discord button on the Welcome tab, or go straight to the link below. You'll need "Manage Server" permission on the server you're adding her to.
Discord will show you the permissions Betsy's asking for — approve them and pick your server. That's it, she's in.
2. Setting up channels
Most of Betsy's features need a channel telling her where to post. All of these are run as slash commands by anyone with "Manage Server" permission, and can be changed any time. You don't need to set up everything below — just whichever features you actually want.
Moderation & activity logging
/automod log-channel— where moderation actions (warns, mutes, kicks, bans) get logged/logging channel— the general activity log (commands used, message edits/deletes, voice channel activity, joins/leaves, role changes)/logging new-account-channel— optional, for alerts when an account under 6 months old joins/report-settings channel— where member reports (from/report) get posted
Community features
/suggestions-settings channel— where new suggestions get posted for voting/birthday set-channel— where birthday shout-outs get posted/weekly-vip— has its own channel/role settings; run it to see the options
Staff alerts channel
Set with /youtube confirm-channel — despite living under the YouTube command, this channel is also where bot support requests get sent when someone DMs Betsy for help (see Everything else below), so it's worth setting up even if you're not using YouTube features.
/settings all at any point to see everything currently configured for your server in one place, across YouTube, Twitch, moderation, tickets, and community settings.
3. Twitch — live/clip announcements
This watches Twitch channels and posts in Discord when they go live or post a clip — fully self-service, works for any server.
/twitch add-channel login:<name> own_channel:<true/false>— register a channel to watch. Mark it as your own channel to also get clip posts and game-based role pings; friends' channels just get a simple "now live" post./twitch announce-channel— where your own channel's "live" posts go/twitch self-promo-channel— where friends' channels' "live" posts go/twitch clips-channel— where clips get posted (your own channel only)/twitch add-role game:<name> role:<role>— ping a specific role when you go live playing a particular game/twitch live-role— a general role pinged any time your channel goes live
4. Twitch chat bot
!commands, welcome/shoutout messages) runs as Betsy's own Twitch account, 3Betsy — not yours. Getting it connected still needs one step from Eddie's side (a one-time authorisation that has to be run directly on the server hosting Betsy), so reach out and ask if you'd like it enabled for your channel.
Once that's done, you'll need to mod 3Betsy in your own Twitch channel so she has permission to moderate and post there.
From that point on, everything else is self-service and configured normally with /twitch-chat — enabling/disabling it, custom commands, moderation settings, welcome messages, and follow/sub shoutouts.
5. YouTube video detection
6. Moderation
/warn, /mute, /kick, and /ban work immediately for any staff member with the right Discord permissions — no setup needed beyond having a mod log channel (see above) so the actions get recorded somewhere.
/automod add-word/remove-word— a banned words/phrases filter/automod limits— spam, mention, and emoji limits, and whether to auto-delete Discord invite links/automod native sync— mirrors your banned words and mention limit into Discord's own built-in AutoMod (Safety Setup), so both systems catch the same things/lockdown settings— how many people getting moderated in a short window counts as a raid, and how long the automatic lockdown lasts
7. Tickets
For server-specific support requests from your own members — separate from Betsy's own bot-support system (see below).
/ticket-category add name:<name>— create at least one category (e.g. "General Support", "Report a Bug")/ticket-panel— post the ticket-opening panel in whichever channel you want members to open tickets from/ticket-settings transcript-channelandarchive-category— optional, for keeping a record of closed tickets
8. Everything else
Everything below works immediately, with no setup required:
- Points & games — members earn points from activity;
/points,/leaderboard,/profile, and a handful of point-based games (/coinflip,/rps,/slots,/wheel,/higherlower,/diceduel,/guessnumber,/trivia) - Birthdays — members set their own with
/birthday set - Reminders & personal notes —
/remind,/mynotes - Suggestions & giveaways — members submit and vote on suggestions once a channel's set (above); staff run giveaways with
/giveaway create - Account linking — members can link their Twitch/YouTube accounts with
/link-twitchand/link-youtube - Bot support — if a member needs help with Betsy herself (not your server's own stuff), they can just DM her directly and follow the prompts — no setup needed beyond the staff alerts channel above
- Privacy controls —
/deletemydataand/reenablemydatalet any member control their own data, always available
For the full, always-current list of what's available to your members, run /help in your server.
